It is specified that all movement in the Lodge should be clockwise, so to go from the Northwest to the altar or the door for any reason while the Lodge is open, one is required to cross the East. <br /><br />Additionally, we are not required to vote. It is certainly recommended, but abstention on a vote is often (sometimes?) used when one does not agree with the motion as presented, but is unable to offer a better alternative. Even when voting on a candidate, it is not required to determine that they received a number of white balls equal to the number of Brethren present, only that they didn't receive the requisite number of black balls (from 1 to 3, depending on the Lodge/GL) to be rejected. We have had issues here in the past with Brethren in principal offices who had affiliated from US jurisdictions and asked for a re-vote on a candidate because there were less white balls in the ballot than members present.
