Joseph Stalin: Freemason Or Not?

All Freemasons???
I ran across this photo with the caption "Churchill, Roosevelt, & Stalin: Freemasons." It is well known and accepted that both Winston Churchill and Franklin D. Roosevelt were Freemasons.  Churchill was a member of Studholme Lodge No. 1591, England and Roosevelt was a member of Holland Lodge No. 8, New York.  So the question is whether Joseph Stalin, the Premier of the Soviet Union who allied with the United States and Great Britain during World War II was also a member of the fraternity.

Since the 1950s, Stalin has frequently been cited as a Freemason. However, there is no record that Stalin was a Mason. It would not have been possible for Stalin to join a regular lodge even if he had desired admission. As a condition for membership, Masons must profess a belief in a Supreme Being, and Joseph Stalin was an avowed athiest.

  1. Stalin studied to be a priest as a young man .He could have joined then when clearly he was a believer .

    1. I have never known one Mason that has ever kept his membership a secret. I've written two books on Famous Freemasons and again never run across a single instance when membership was secret. The idea that Masons keep their membership a secret is pure conspiracy nonsense.

    2. There are lodges that maintain a culture of secrecy and lodges that attract diplomats explicitly for the discretion they afford. There are also regular mainstream obediences where even craft lodge membership is invitational, as opposed to ASK one to BE one. Much of this has to do with the politics and history of the particular host country. It contributes to how Freemasonry grows. Blissful, child-like naiveté, an uninformed and presumptuous insularity + camera enabled iPhones recently resulted in a very high ranking Cardinal being removed from his public post in the Vatican after some visitors from an English speaking Grand Lodge took photos during the constitution ceremonies for the founding of a new lodge in Eastern Europe, uploaded them and even labeled this cleric's photo (much to his horror) with his name and Vatican as well as Masonic title. It is an offense in some jurisdictions to reveal someone's membership without their consent. Many Grand Lodges that I have attended do not have markings on their building entrances and with good reason. The organizational culture of Freemasonry is diverse. Even here in the United States, there are hundreds of thousands of Freemasons who conceal their membership for various reasons, some personal and many more for professional reasons. The reasons why someone might opt to conceal their membership are innumerable. The fact is that it is quite common to conceal one's membership.

  5. What hand in jacket thing? You don't have to show off your manipulation skills. You obviously aren't high enough on the ladder of Freemasonry to know what's REALLY going on behind the curtain. You don't even know that you too are deceived poor thing.George Washington,Ted Cruz,Hosni Mubarak,Kemal Ataturk,Stalin etc all with hid one of their hands when posing for a portrait or photo shoot. It is called "Sign of the master of the second veil". Are you a coincidence theorist?
